7/4/2023 0 Comments Night soldiers book![]() ![]() ![]() With his collection now open to the public, we crept into the Ransom Center’s Reading Room to sift through a few boxes of his papers, curious to see how one goes about writing spy novels. ![]() He approached Furst and, after a few years of negotiating, purchased Furst’s collection for an undisclosed amount.įurst visited Austin in October to kick off the Texas Book Festival with a reading from his latest novel, the New York Times bestseller The Foreign Correspondent. Furst reminded Staley of Graham Greene, whose papers the Ransom Center already housed, and Staley thought Furst’s meticulous research files and neatly typewritten manuscripts would fit nicely next to Greene’s on the shelves of the Ransom Center’s Reading Room. Alan Furst hit the jackpot when a copy of his book The Polish Officer found its way onto the nightstand of Thomas Staley, director of the Harry Ransom Center, who discovered in Furst’s prose a singular ability to recreate the tense and shadowy atmosphere that gripped pre-World War II Europe. You can safely bet on your mom, a few colleagues, and the occasional library archivist, but beyond that, it’s a toss-up. It is about the perseverance and struggles in Tony Dungy’s world. This book dates back at the time Dungy was a teenager. Generally, it is a book that depicts the real meaning of incorporating leadership and faith to work. It challenges people to reflect on their lives in order to define success. Basically, Quiet Strength talks about a memorable life lived for family and God. ![]() Following his victory as the first African American coach in Suoer Bowl 41, Dungy reflect on how he went through hard times and major challenges but he managed to lead his team to victory (Dungy 132). In the book, Dungy reflects on symbolic stories that are based on his football career and his walk with God. ![]() The book goes over story after story as it illustrates on how to tackle challenges and situations particularly in leadership. It discusses the importance of faith in relation to leadership. That said, when I read the blurb for This Monstrous Thing, the first three words that entered my mind were, “MUST READ THIS!” I wouldn’t say I’m not a fan of Frankenstein, but it’s also not something I’ve read much about. We both live in the Boston area, and her story melds historical fiction with steampunk – with the added bonus of Frankenstein.
